About BECA
We Teach Children – They Teach Us
Bilingual Education for Central America exists to promote cultural exchange and affordable bilingual education. Our volunteer-driven bilingual school model creates an environment in which Central American students learn from dedicated volunteer teachers, and those volunteers learn from the community in which they are immersed.
Through our partnership with the Asociacion de Padres de Cofradia, over 220 children in Pre-K to 9th grade are educated at San Jeronimo Bilingual School in Cofradia, Honduras by a team of 15 US volunteers and 5 Hondurans.
I am from Honduras and currently at college in the US. It brings great happiness to realize the happy post project and BECA have joined for this cause. Unfortunately I am not in Honduras for long periods of time since I am in college but please contact me back and I will be more that happy to help out at the San Jeronimo Bilingual School in Cofradia!
Thank you BECA for your support to Honduras!
Hola Familia! I just wanted to commend you for your mission in working and collaborating with so many children in Central America who need the love, validation and human support you bring.
I was born in Guanajuato,Mexico and emigrated to the U.S. at five. I grew up in Los Angeles and I was bless to have taught at Nimitz Middle School, my junior high school. It was here that I heard the narratives of my students who came from Centro America with chattered lives. As an ESL teacher I was able to learn so much more from my students than they from me. Then I came out to the inland Empire, Riverside County…. where I’m currently teaching Language Arts in the lovely city of Corona. Through the Puente Program we purchased the book “Enrique’s Journey” by Sonia Nazario. My 9th grade students read the journalist interview with Enrique — one of the lucky ones who didn’t die on the train of death. This book touched the soul of my students….as well as my own. I would love to be part of your association. Is it possible for my students to be able to bring their ideas, service, and hope to the children you work with?
Thank you so much again for your labor of love, hope and transformation.
